If you avoid patterns because they use the Kitchener Stitch, this workshop is for you. We will take a look at fabric anatomy to see how knitting turns a single string into fabric. Then we’ll apply that insight to grafting techniques like the Kitchener or seaming live stitches to a provisional cast-on… in garter stitch! Then to really test your bravery we will we cut a hole in the fabric and use what we learn to repair it. With these skills, you might become a knitting super hero!
Required Materials:
There will be homework that’s required for this class. Students will receive a pattern to create two swatches, one will be a small swatch in garter while the other will measure at least 6 x 6 inches (15 x 15 cm). The second swatch will be mostly in stockinette but have single row stripes in a contrasting color.
In addition to homework, students will need to bring the yarn used for the single row stripes, a tapestry needle, scissors and locking stitch markers. Also recommend bringing a crochet hook that is slightly smaller than knitting needles.
Prerequisites:
- Knitting basics (cast-on, knit, purl, bind-off) is a must.
- Familiarity with duplicate stitch, provisional cast-on and tubular bind-off is strongly recommended.
